All hands on deck! The year is 1664 and there are fortunes to be made and lost…. or stolen…. in the waters of the Caribbean and its islands, coves; secret and otherwise.

In these times it takes courage and daring to carve out a niche and forge a new legend. Will you sail the high seas in search of fame and fortune, lead a band of buccaneers in search of booty, or captain a ship of the line in the service of King and country?

Sailors throughout the Caribbean regularly joked about their deaths, particularly death by hanging, which was referred to as “The Hempen Jig”.

The salt of the air, the sound of the waves, the clear, blue transparent waters beckon you to find your fame and fortune — the question is whether you can avoid the Hempen Jig!

I am new to the computer scene but not the FRPG scene. I have been playing since the late '70s and DMing since the mid-80s. I prefer to DM my own house-ruled AD&D 2E Forgotten Realms campaign. My house rules create a unique blend of 1E and 2E rules that feature high magic and deadly opponents. Although you cannot walk into a store and buy a magical sword, magic is common. Magic potions may often be purchased, and everyone knows magic exists, but few wield it well. I believe in giving the monsters an even break, so the monsters get many of the same adjustments as the characters and NPCs.

I would like to establish the beginning of a FR campaign, with 4-8 characters starting at 1st level. Ideally, I would like to use OP to coordinate the campaign and communicate with my players in a way that I was never able to before. I would like the campaign to meet bi-monthly (approximately every 2 weeks) at one of the local game stores in Everett and Marysville WA. I have reliable transportation and am willing to drive to DM up to an hour each way. Bellevue, Bellingham, and Lynnwood are also viable locations. Providing all of us are over 21, locations like AFK Tavern in Everett could also be utilized for sessions. Other locations can be discussed.

Ideally each session would be at least four hours and may last as long as 8 to 12 hours by mutual consent. I cannot offer a game on a routine day because I work a non-consistent rotating shift. I am willing to co-DM with another if we can make the campaign work.

Hello,

I wanted to introduce myself and mention my gaming group campaign site.

Ours is Geeks Distributed, so named for our geographic proximity . . . or, rather, lack thereof. It is a Rise of the Runelords campaign in the Pathfinder system. I know that is a popular series, and there are many campaigns built around that title, but if you are interested in reading another go at it then our campaign is this way:

"Geeks Distributed":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/geeks-distributed

We are a group of old friends who live around the United States. We play online, using Skype to communicate, and MapTool to manage the game environment and dice rolling. We have been role-playing gamers since the late 1970s and early 1980s, and have played and enjoyed many different games. In recent years we have come to celebrate Pathfinder as an excellent heir to the Dungeons & Dragons legacy we grew up with. Our thanks go out to Paizo and its community.

Something perhaps a little different about this particular campaign is that I write the narrative adventure log, but I am player, not the GM (I play the wizard Rahab). We play far enough ahead that by the time I write the entries, I am (usually) assured of not giving away anything critical, and our discerning GM helps ensure that important “behind the screen” information stays where it should, or is only revealed at such time as it is deemed safe so to do. At other times, I am guessing at—or inventing from whole-cloth—narrative aspects since I do not have access to GM-only content.

Those of you familiar with the Rise of the Runelords series may notice detail differences between our story and your experience of that campaign. I suspect we are not the first role-playing group to tailor a pre-developed setting to our own tastes and style, and any such deviations from the published canon are expressions of that personalization rather than presumptuous disregard for the effort of the publishers.

A note about language: occasionally I use contemporary terms from English that are sometimes regarded as “foul” language. I use these for two main reasons. First, I suspect nearly every culture and language has these kind of words as part of the expression available to convey certain emotions, actions, or sentiments. It makes sense to me that a group of adventures, including some who have had fairly difficult lives, would occasionally employ these terms in the course of exploring the world, fighting monsters, taking damage, and facing challenging circumstances.

Second, I think it is effective for the reader to encounter those terms in language the reader recognizes, rather than trying to relate exclusively to invented fantasy role-playing game insults. “Avarnath’s Blood!” (or whatever) may be a potent oath in-game, but someone reading it in the real-world present day does not necessarily have enough context to recognize that as shocking language. Real-world words on the other hand, can work quite well in that capacity. In this I share some of the opinions of the writer David Milch who created the HBO television program _Deadwood_ in the mid-2000s. For more of his thoughts on the subject, I recommend the excellent documentary about language on the _Deadwood_ Season 1 extra features DVD.

Nevertheless, I have occasionally invented fantasy role-playing-game oaths in the adventure log, as well; but sometimes there is simply no substitute for a colorful vocalization in contemporary English, especially to convey a particular urgency or intensity.

Thematically, I have attempted to incorporate more than just killing imaginary monsters and taking their imaginary stuff into our narrative. I try to include a variety of ideas and developments, including some that contemporary media might describe as “mature” in nature. If my writing ever oversteps the bounds of effective narrative into the realm of exploitative injury then that is my error and I apologize. I want to alert potential readers to these aspects so that those uncomfortable with such devices may be forewarned.

I hope you find the campaign story engaging and entertaining. Our site is not as replete as many I have seen so expertly put together on Obsidian Portal, so I am afraid I cannot offer particularly fancy graphics or sound files to the same degree. Where you do see such features their success owes to our excellent and dear GM, Dgroo, as well as supportive efforts by the other players. As a final note, I want to stress that any errors in the telling of the story are solely mine and not those of my friends and fellow gamers.

If you have read this far I thank you for your time and attention. I hope wherever you are, you find yourself and your loved ones in good health and good gaming.

Still learning,

Hello all,

I've hovered here for a while but have never introduced myself before. Currently a friend of mine has subscribed and has organized our Kingmaker PF game, so it brought me back.

Thinking about running a PF game myself that would be house-ruled a bit as I like parts of 4th ED and Numenera too with regards to running a game, but it's PF at its heart.

All bard party. I've been a musician my whole life and imagining a troupe of entertainers, from dancers, to singers, to musicians seems like it could be a lot of fun for a party liking the role play part of it - but that's neither here nor there at this juncture. Just saying hello to everyone and hoping everyone is having a great day.
Thanks!
I'm not pitching my campaign for Campaign of the Month or anything (I don't have the CSS talent to customize it to the amazing level that I've seen others do on Obsidian Portal) but I do get requests for campaign and adventure ideas on the setting and am hoping that other GM's for the setting might get some ideas from some of the missions that I've ran and posted. In addition, when the Obsidian Portal staff added the Dark Heresy campaign category (my campaign was created under the original Warhammer 40K: Dark Heresy category), it reduced the exposure of my campaign since most look at the newer category instead. If you have any interest, please check it out, and to fellow GMs looking for ideas or wanting to share theirs, shoot me a message. Take care, Taddow.

Hello! So I've been on Obsidian Portal but have completely ignored the community section (what kind of person am I?) since I've only done a few things on my campaign here. Unfortunately my campaign is quiet a complex project since it's more of a campaign setting. If you couldn't tell from the title, I'm a bit of a japanaphile (is that even a word and if so did I even use it properly?) and on top of making a whole campaign setting I'm also working on making a Final Fantasy conversion for D&D 4E for that campaign. That means I'm coming up with all new classes, powers, and races and a few game system modifications. My pool of information, other than the obvious myriad of Final Fantasy games, is from the Final Fantasy wiki - which has been great for coming up with the history behind the various worlds in the series - and the 3.5/Pathfinder Final Fantasy d20 project.

I've suggested a "new feature":http://forums.obsidianportal.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=3483&page=1#Item_1 mostly out of a selfish desire to be able to get a custom css character sheet online that matches what I'm doing with my campaign.

I've been using OP for a couple of years now, and I've even read some forum posts in the past, but this is my first day posting to the forums. I figure I should introduce myself.

I am running a Carrion Crown (pathfinder) game at my home with 5 players. Each week, we rotate who keeps track of the adventure, and then that person writes the log from their point of view. We starting doing this six sessions ago when I took over as DM for Carrion Crown, after the last party nearly TPK'd and the GM didn't want to run it anymore.

I've made our OP page public if anyone would like to read along as we play. :)
I apologize that it doesn't look pretty; I'm not very good at CSS or formatting. If anyone wants to make suggestions, by all means do so. :)

All,

I'm a long time gamer (but not vocal on boards) who has recently quit my job to work on some more fun projects. My first is an Initiative Tracker for SR5. I love the way that technology is starting to make gaming better (PDF books anyone?, the campaigns I'm in on this site!), but I feel like there is much further we can go -- without losing that great face-to-face experience.

We all carry computers in our pockets now -- why can't they take some of the drudgery out of gaming? I love Shadowrun, but it is definitely crunchy. The new Initiative rules are particularly so -- constantly changing values, and a tiny difference in score can make a huge difference in the game.

So, I wrote (and am selling) an iPhone app to help automate Initiative. I think it is a great improvement to the tabletop experience -- I'm loving using it in my game.

Hey Guys,
New to Obsidian Portal, I've gotten something of a warm welcome from some people already but I thought I'd just pop in an introduce myself. My name is Liam, I am 28 years old and from Australia. The game I am running is a massive transdimensional Rifts game borrowing heavily from the Lovecraft Mythos where the players are unwitting pawns in a grand cosmic chess game played by powers beyond their ken. Their actions help to govern and shape the Megaverse in a time when all reality is in upheaval. I have a vast expansive library of NPCs, stories, and old adventures that can be read on the wiki. I hope you enjoy the page, if you do don't forget to become a fan!

*Oh! A quick question!*
I would like to break some of the pages into double columns but I keep having a problem where I need to pick the exact point of the column break and even then, the text always centers itself. If I want a page to simply appear as a double columned page, with text aligned to the top of the page and scrolling down is there a specific way I can do that? If not that is fine, its just an ascetic thing. :)

Hello all. I was thinking of starting a new Campaign based on the Players living in Orc society and playing as Orcs and various Inhuman characters. I was just getting started on OP and then everything went all "New and Confusing". I would like to know if any out there would like to join this type of campaign and if any of you had any inkling on how to use the new portal. THe campaign would be using Pathfinder rules. Look forward to hearing from you

Requirements:

D20pro (VTT Software)
ObsidianPortal.com (Website)
Teamspeak 3 (Voice Software)

Times:

We play evenings and are in CST (GMT -6)
I am looking to start these about 4:00pm or 5:00pm CST on Thursday and can alternate as needed based on schedules.

Information:

Currently myself and one other player are looking for 3-5 other players to join us on a Thursday evening. We are looking to run a Pathfinder game.

I am somewhat of a new DM. I have DMed 4 games (2 face to face, 2 face to computer) and am quickly gathering more knowledge. I am a 3.5 guru and have taken a liking to Pathfinder as of late and want to learn it.

My current player is a rules lawyer. He somehow has the ability to call information back from books and is a very good resource. He likes to make sure things are right and rules are followed. He has more book knowledge than myself currently.

We are looking for a few good mannered players that like combat and roleplaying equally. I like to switch it up when it comes to combat and RP so that one doesn't become stale. I have a strict policy on attendance but also understand that things come up so usually allow a 75% attendance rate (1 week missed a month). I like detailed players, plot hooks rock!

If you are interested feel free to email me at Yoshara@gmail.com (best way to get me) or send me a PM here.

I also need to mention that I own a Judge license for D20pro so there is no need to purchase anything.

A great and ancient evil has been awakened after centuries of sleep. Only you can stop it!

A new AD&D campaign will be starting soon in central New Jersey. We have room for another player or two. This campaign is not yet listed on Obsidian Portal.

I'm not sure which version of the rules we'll use -- the players will decide on that at our first session. I prefer to stress plot and character development. The rules are just a means to an end. Rules lawyers will not enjoy my games.

The name of the campaign is "Shattered Star" (http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/shattered-star-elvenstar). In short this is a traditional table-top campaign using the Mythic Adventures rules for Pathfinder RPG. The game is set in the northern forest realm of Wendar and I am angling for a legendary, "Tolkienesque" theme. The game will start on November 10th and run from 3pm - 9pm with a dinner break. The intent is for a consistent, long-term campaign that will run every Sunday at the aforementioned times. We need one or two players to join our group who are committed and reliable. Feel free to message me (DMAKron), for further details.

Stengard Marches (http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/stengard-marches) is a D&D Next online sandbox campaign styled after the West Marches. Players and their characters will generate the adventure, while the DMs are here to help facilitate the action.

The Marches are the frontier, and the town of Stengard is a bastion of questionable civility among the untamed wilderness. How, why, and from where your character arrived is up to you, but the only real question is what will you do now that you’re here?

We are currently recruiting players and DMs - you are welcome to do both, and create more than one character as well. First time players and first time DMs are encouraged to join. We hope to see you in the Marches!

Hello all! I'm looking to find or start a campaign for the D&D Next playtest. I would prefer a group that meets in person but will settle for an online game if that's all I can get. I wish to play, not GM as I'm no good at it, and am particularly interested in the dwarf cleric pregen.

I have a few friends who might be interested in playing as well but no guarantees. If anyone is interested leave a reply or PM me and we'll work out the details!
