Hi everyone

I'm a GM since a long time and i am curious to hear what players find interesting in an adventure. Is it the story? is it the fact that they can start of high level ? Moreover how do people play nowadays ? still the old fashion way or more and more taking advantage of VTT (virtual tabletop)?
Since here unfortunately it is not possible to make a poll i set it up here --> (http://rpggeek.com/thread/953104/a-small-survey-to-players) on RPGGeek (i hope that is not a problem).

I hope to learn something from it and that you will enjoy

So, OP seems to have gotten a new, fancy-looking main page. Is this part of the roll-out of the general OP update?

Anyways, it looks rather nice. One minor issue, though - there isn't any way to go directly to your campaigns from the main page now! You have to go to your profile first, and then can go to a campaign from there. I miss being able to just go straight to my campaigns. Kinda miss the 'news' area, too, and it kinda looks like it's designed primarily for people who haven't already signed up for OP. Are you going to be making a different main page for those of us already registered and signed in?

There has always been the problem that the GM Only info doesn't show up correctly until you load it as the wikis/home-page however now I'm having another problem. For some reason the relative top is different on both pages. I'm trying to cover up the title on the home page with my games logo(temp logo).
Correct(for pic) -> "http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/return-to-the-time-of-troubles/wikis/home-page":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/return-to-the-time-of-troubles/

Hey all,

My company the Farsight Design Workshop is running a series of articles on Steam Powered Robots; specifically the Iron Kingdoms Variety. I'm a mechanical engineer with varied experience in medical devices, satellite communications, and particle accelerators. I love science and engineering. I love gaming. My company and its blog combine those together.

I need your help.

What topics would be really cool to take a deeper look into? On the mundane side of things, I was thinking of articles on what makes a rope strong or how a lens was made pre-industrial revolution. On the fantasy side of things, I was looking at the pyrology of fireballs and what's the hottest thing they could melt bounded by the laws of thermodynamics or how magic could best be used to augment lock design. Maybe, you have a campaign concept for some technology you wish you understood better.

As always my goal is to present things in an easy to read and understand format. So what do you think, do you have any ideas?

Check out the company vision at http://www.farsightdesignworkshop.com and take a look at the blog at http://farsightdesignworkshop.blogspot.com Also, you can reach out to me on facebook (Farsight Design Workshop LLC), twitter (FarsightDesign), e-mail(check my profile), or here on the forums.
Good Gaming!

With gaming in Hawaii, players fall into one (on rare ccasion both) of two categories: locals (Hawaii born or raised with strong roots here) and military (on deployment in Hawaii). We get along really well for the most part...except that the military players innevitably redeploy and leave the locals behind feeling very sad. So we end up with strong ties to people scatterred to the wind. My gaming group has tried to keep in touch with our wayward friends by remote gaming via Skype and webcams, but that is only so-so as an interraction medium. There is nothing like being there in person...but this tech looks like it is getting closer to bridging the gap.

Now it just needs a Kickstarter! :D

My group(me running my wife and 3 kids) have started a new campaign. We're 2 sessions in, with at least 2 more planned to be ran on my days off the next few days. We've been debating putting it up on OP and see how it goes. The only stumbling block is what to list it under. We've gone back into the Serenity RPG. BUT it's a "mutant" Serenity. Let me explain:

My main groups have played a LOT of different systems over the years, but we never seem to run a system straight, we always seem to "break it" and mutate it some way. Whether it be bringing races/classes/ skill etc from other systems into it. We've played Serenity before and we all loved it but plan to break it again since the system is so easy to tweak and hack things into it. All of us being Serenity/Firefly fans, we know that people tend to get REALLY touchy when you start going too far off from their beloved show/series.

So, the question is, if we do this "mutant" Serenity...would I list it under Cortex System or Serenity?

Legendary Realms Miniature Dungeon Terrain Kickstarter!

Ever seen the fancy dungeon terrain that exists out there and longed to use it in your games? Most of us have, and unless you have a huge amount of disposable income, that excellent terrain is probably out of your reach. Right?

Wrong. Legendary Realms is about to change the dynamics of the miniatures terrain making game. They are already producing low-cost and high-quality durable fantasy terrain. Now, with your help, they would like to purchase a 3D scanner and printer and bring their excellent products to an even greater audience.

The scope of the Kickstarter includes the introduction line of five themed rooms including an epic Throne Room, wicked Dungeon Cells, an arcane Scrying Chamber, and at least two additional megadungeons. Did I mention that the pledges of the megadungeon get to submit a room design? If yours is chosen, you get credit for the design and a free copy of the room!

So take advantage of this great Kickstarter and let Legendary Realms Terrain stock your game table with amazing high quality terrain for a fraction of what you would be charged elsewhere. You’ll walk away with some great stuff for your game table and by doing so you will help them fulfill the next step in their business growth.

The best part is that this kickstarter is already funded. At this point all you have to do is pledge (at any level) to get some great rewards. There are terrain rewards and even dungeon-themed adventures and sourcebooks from the likes of Pathfinder compatible publishers Purple Duck Games, Raging Swan Press, Total Party Kill Games and Frog God Games!
I know I can put it in the bio, but I'm using Karelzarath's D&D 3.5 sheet for example and I would like to just have a link, in the weapons section, to link directly to the long description. For example a Staff of Power is just too long. As I said I can(and do) add the links in the bio, but it would be even quicker to have the link in the right section.
So the question is can it be done?

Whattup OP

so i've entered the "30 Character Challenge,":http://www.30characters.com this art blog thing they've been holding every November for the last four years.

The whole basis of it is to make a 'new character' every day for the month of November.

I've been using this challenge as a means to finally get around to drawing/scanning PC portraits for players in my tabletop games.

It's a good incentive to be prolific with doodling and stuff. "My entries":http://www.30characters.com/author/erwin/ can be seen "here.":http://www.30characters.com/author/erwin/

We're about a third of the way into the challenge, and I'm starting to run out of PC's to draw. I finished my first group of 4-5 and I'm almost through with my second group of 6. (I've padded a few entries with NPC characters, but i'd rather not.)

So I'm proposing to anyone who's feelin' the sketches;

Provide a detailed description of your character, and I'll make an entry for him/her. The more details the better.

really though, i might take liberties and give em a mustache

Greetings fellow Obsidians!

I have a big stack of old RPG books that I'd like to sell to a happy home. I have old books including 1st and 2nd Edition D&D plus a bunch of others, such as White Wolf and Palladium books.

Does anyone know of a good place to list these? I can do it here of course, but I'm just not sure. If you have any ideas, or are interested in picking up some old swag, let me know!

Hey everyone,

I was hoping to hear from players who had heard of or done any "flash" gaming- i.e. quick 30-45 minute sessions for 1-4 players.

My current group is a lot of fun, but we never seem to arrive at the same time for the game. We're all coming from different parts of town, so the players usually trickle in on game night over the course of an hour. This results in some of the guys sitting around, waiting to get started. We usually just fill the void with chit chat or game prep, but the other night I thought "Why not have a mini game?!"

You know, something to start the night off, like an RPG appetizer. This would give me a chance to enjoy some quick GMing, give the GM a fun break so they can play, and whet our collective appetites for the rest of the night.

I've got a pretty easy, quick system in mind, nothing rules-laden or slow moving like 4e or even D20- just a stripped down FUDGE with a few fun little twists thrown in for the setting. So, two D6s, a brief narrative intro, and some _Slam-Bam-thank you, Ma'am_ to get everyone in the mood.

So, again, the question is whether anyone has experienced anything like this and, if you did, how did you enjoy it? Feel free to comment even if you haven't played any "flash" games either. I've spent a few hours around the web looking for anything like this, but to no avail. Thank goodness for OP and its community! If anyone will know about this sort thing, you guys will :)

Greetings gents! (and the occasional awesome gamer-ladies!)

I am starting a new blog called "Adventuring Archives":http://adventurearchives.blogspot.com/2012/02/first-and-seven-wonders-of-world.html. Seeing as how I am now a father of a very active 8 month old, I doubt I will get to game again anytime in the foreseeable future. I have decided to start blogging my game ideas in an effort to get my Dungeons and Dragons in. Please take a look and let me know what you think. Any critiques, ideas or topics for future posts would be appreciated

Thanks!

If you haven’t already, please check out our Star Wars campaign titled Power of the Darkside.

It is set in the Old Republic era (10 years after the events of the MMO). What we’ve done is tied the campaign to an actual play podcast that we use for our campaign logs.

There are those that do not like actual play podcasts, but please before you disregard ours give it one chance. We produce it much like an audio drama, with music and sound effects. All I ask is listen to the first episode for 10 minutes.

"Here":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/star-wars-old-republic-power-of-the-darkside/adventure-log is the link to the adventure log, where you can find links to the episodes.
