Hey there OPsters

I did a "sketch":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/roguetraders/wikis/paladin-paladin-paladin and I'm trying to find a mini to match (yes it would probably be easier to do it the other way!)

Female Paladin. I'm flexible on the exact armour/weapon as long as it's full plate, but I'd like to match the face/hair as closely as possible.

Don't care what manufacturer and happy to customize (as best I can).
I've done a LOT of research myself but this worked so well last time, I thought I'd give it another go...
Thanks all

Awhile back, before the opening page was changed, there were a list of articles on the opening page. One article talked about the use of sound effects and music to add ambiance to a game. The article mentioned two free programs that was designed specifically for table top gaming to play ambient sound. Recently, my computer crashed and I had to replace the hard drive. I had both of those programs on my computer and didn't think to write them down so I could reload them. Does anyone know where I can find the article or what the programs were?
Many thanks for your help.
You’re a GM that loves to take control of their environment in order to provide an immersive experience for your players. Or a war gamer who likes to set the mood by enriching your environment with the sounds that one might hear on the battlefield. Or maybe you’re a game store owner hosting a local GM night and you need to provide a backdrop that will work for any game.
Q-Workshop (http://catalogue.q-workshop.com) is reviewing the design for prototyping. I'm talking with Rich Thomas of Onyx Path about licensing (I assume we need to get a lot of backers).

I've been playing Exalted since it came out and I've always wanted dice that show success or failure at a glance. Ideally, these dice also give secondary information: The jade have a 5 element theme, for example. While these are still prototype designs and can change, I think they look pretty good.

Again, please look at the Kickstarter. Your opinion is valued and greatly desired. If this project is successful, it will yield a full line of licensed Exalted dice!

Hi everybody,

Ok, first thing's first, I am not involved with this Kickstarter in any way. I just think it's a cool idea: "Lovecrafted Games Customizable 3D-printed Miniatures":http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/996367068/lovecrafted-games-customizable-3d-printed-miniatur

Looks pretty sweet, but they'll need a fairly large amount of capital to get going. I wish they'd given more of a price break at the mid-level tiers of backing, but be that as it may, there's the link for interested parties.

As for me, I'm a long-time user, first-time poster, second-year grad student in Ohio. Mostly play dnd 3.5, though I've done a little Deadlands and Mages, too. Big fan of MageKnight, from when Wizkids Games wasn't just branding everything HeroClix. I don't know exactly how intros are usually done on the Portal, but I'll offer some basic stats.

*Favorite System:* D&D 3.5, with homebrewed worlds
*Favorite Class:* Rogue
*Favorite Class that I've never played:* Rogue
*Favorite sourcebook:* Tome of Magic
*Favorite Character played:* Gin (like "Grin" w/out the "r"), a Dwarf Conjurer/Druid/Arcane Hierophant
*Origin of username:* Vognar, my other favorite character, a Raptoran Soulknife
*Current D&D occupation:* DM
*Current real-life occupation:* Paleontology graduate student
*Length of time since my last rp session:* 14...months

Nice to--finally--formally join all of you here!

Dresden Files RPG - The Catch and its permutations.

So, I have a question for the other GMs out there about Costing Catches. Mostly this comes from my understanding of the FUDGE role play system (first played in 1998) and FATE.

So, in general, you're looking at a 1 in 81 chance of getting either a +4 or a -4 (1 in 81 each), 4 in 81 of either -3 of +3. 10 in 81 of +2 or -2. 16 in 81 of +1 or -1 and 19 in 81 of 0.

So, 19 = 0, 16=+1, 10=+2, 4=+3, and 1=+4.

This gives us a general understanding of the exponential nature of the dice in the system, which is the reason most common supernatural abilities are in the -2 range of cost and capability, and the reason why toughness scales so quickly from Inhuman to Supernatural to Mythic: It is not a linear progression.

So, in looking at this, we are given +0 for you're not gonna get it, +1 for rare, and +2 for most people don't carry it.

The first time I realized there was a problem was when a player took a catch of "Human Ash"

It was a thematic choice for the character, so just changing it hurts who we see the character as. Not going into the precautions that the character had to go through to protect himself from accidental exposure (it was 1928 and there are no hepafilters. Dust is made out of people much like soilent green) This is something he can accidentally run into. This, in my opinion is a +4 catch all on its own. Since it was not possible to learn it without knowing him (he destroyed any reference of it in text), he ended with a +4 catch.

Same character comes up with a catch for a new character (Nephilim, you know, half angel) Of Sin and Corruption. So it is something anyone can have access to (meaning a sinner bypasses his catch) at any time and would always have it with him, which theoretically would be +3. As the lesser of the two corruption (rust, tarnished silver, maggots) would be a +2 and overwritten.

Is my math right here? Even if it is, should a character be able to go beyond the standard +2 for material. Should I just rename the catch to say it only protects against purity...but then it suddenly becomes a +6 catch (only 1 item, easy for people to find a way around it, anyone who knows he's a Nephilim knows it) instead of the +5 I am currently giving him.

I'm looking for input here.

Hi all. A while ago I mentioned in another post which featured a "map of Palladium":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/a-god-rebuilt/wikis/maps I did for Killervp that I was working on another big map project in the near future. Well things are far enough along in production that I can now say a bit more about that project. I've been commissioned to do a couple of maps for an upcoming strategy and mystery MMO video game called "The Quest - Rise of Emodo":http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/riseofemodo/the-quest-rise-of-emodo-breathe-life-into-a-new-wo. I'm one of two cartographers working on maps for this project, the other being the enormously talented Jonathon Roberts (whose most recent work includes some amazing "atlas maps of the Lands of Ice and Fire":http://www.amazon.com/Lands-Ice-Fire-Game-Thrones/dp/0345538544/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1367720974&sr=1-1&keywords=game+of+thrones+atlas).

Anyway the reason I'm bringing this up in this forum is that this game is actually being crowd source funded through Kickstarter at the moment and I wanted to put a plug in for it here. We are only two days into the launch and the project has already exceeded the halfway mark for the funding goal (though of course there are some nice stretch rewards if we exceed our goal). I won't waist too much more time talking about the project here, but if you are interested, please come check it out and see if this might be something you are interested in being a part of.

Cheers,

I am building my own zombie survival game. I know there are plenty out there and alot of them are great, but I needed a project to work out out of boredom. I was hoping to get some opinions/ideas on what people thought about some ideas I have come up with:

1. When you build your character you choose a starting class, which corresponds with what you were at the beginning of the outbreak. These would give you your starting abilities (knowledge of the use of guns, attack ability, stuff like that)
-Soldier, Blue Collar Civilian, White Collar Civilian, Doctor, Paramedic, Police Officer, Survivalist (just ideas I have).
-You also start with 1-2 Hobbies that can give you skills that you wouldnt normally have.
2. Use something like the Karma system that Shadowrun uses and that is how you raise your abilities and learn new skills once the game has started. That way you have more control over how you change.
3. Having a meter, once side is something called worldliness (or something like that) and the other is Psyche.
-Wordliness: This meter controls how hardened you are to things. Death, disaster, etc. Certain actions, choices and events will raise this number. (combat, having to chose between friends, etc)
-Psyche: This shows your mental stability. Certain actions, choices and events will lower this number. (seeing zombies for the first time, taking a large amount of damage at once time, seeing a friend die, stuff like that)
4. Using an action point type system, Instead calling it Luck, at the beginning of each game the Gm pulls a die from a bag and that tells you the number of Luck points you have for that session

I'm looking for a rule set that will fit this setting, and was hoping that someone here could come up with some good recommendations.

Read the following to get a feel for it.

(Working title for the setting is Waste Space.)

The game is set in the far future, where the human race has taken refuge in large, derelict space stations around the galaxy. Earth is but a distant memory; humankind lives on the scraps and crumbs left behind by a once great civilization that has crumbled to dust centuries ago. People make do with the debris and spare parts they can find; remnants of when humankind lived in a technological paradise. Our Golden Age is over; all that's left is bits and pieces.

The stations would be isolated from each other if it wasn't for one communications protocol that is still functional, simply called the Network. It is not perfect; as with everything else in the Waste Space, technology is a luxury. But when it works, it enables the stations to keep in contact and work together to better the lives of their inhabitants.

The players are a rescue/investigative team sent out to investigate why certain space stations no longer are in contact with the main Network. But the team isn't your typical tight-assed space marine crew; teams are often made up of people who have nothing else in their lives, people who really need the cash or really need to get away from something. Usually, they're an undisciplined rag tag group of people that are forced together to keep stations up and running.

The reason for Network dropouts are many; sometimes, the problem is simply technical, but most of the time, there's something dangerous or weird going on, and more often than not, it is not a pretty situation.

Living in space stations has a peculiar effect on people. They tend to get weird and unpredictable. Sometimes, the inhabitants of a station decide to cut the connection to the Network because of social issues; maybe they have started a fanatic cult. Maybe some power-hungry maniac has taken control of the station somehow. Maybe the technicians who took care of Network maintenance have all been killed off under mysterious circumstances.

A lot can go wrong on a space station, which means that the rescue team needs to have a wide range of skills. Sometimes, what's needed is smarts and knowledge, sometimes the situation calls for social intervention . And sometimes, inhabitants need to be taken out of the equation the hard way.
When the team enters a space station that hasn't been in contact for a while, they'd better be ready for anything.

Getting to know the Waste Space universe

There are thousands of stations in all shapes and sizes, all of them leftovers from a time when the human race was still on the rise. On most stations nowadays, even basics like food and water can become scarce. Other stations still have completely functional computer systems and working eco-systems; those stations are few, and they are called Edens.

The first session of the game should be used for character creation and the creation of the characters' own space station. This should be a group exercise. It will help you get an idea of what the players are looking for in the game. Make the players' space station as big as it needs to be in order to handle all the diferent characters the players come up with. Then have them fill out the blanks; how the disparate elements are tied together and why.

The main villains of Waste Space are the evil Drazee, a race that feeds on human flesh and blood. When they attack a space station, they jam the communications relays. Sometimes the residents are in the middle of a battle of life and death with the Drazee; other times, it's a clean-up gig. If a space station has managed to contain the Drazee, there will be major damage to the station, security issues and personnel problems. If the Drazee have taken over the station, they'll stay there and make the station their nest. Then the gig is all about getting rid of them. Bug-hunt, as rescue teams call them.

Every game session introduces a new space station with new challenges, twists and goals for the players. The story takes place in the corridors, tubes and rooms of different space stations, but they are never the same, neither layout-wise nor challenge-wise. The game is not an action-oriented space combat game; that being said, it is always a good idea to cover all possible scenarios. Be prepared.

That's it. I am open to all ideas; one of the Fate sci-fi games could be neat, but also stuff like Apocalypse World and even a hack of Dogs in the Vineyard could work. I am a rules-light GM, but nothing's been set in stone regarding rule sets.

if you have a good idea for which rules would fit this setting best, please leave a comment.

Hallo!

I realize this is predominantly a roleplaying crowd, but surely there must be a bundle of us who play other sorts of games.

I'm a pretty avid gamer on top of my gaming (see, I can words with the best of them!), dipping my toes into some pretty esoteric titles here and there, and was wondering if there were any other gamers out there who were looking for some pixel-bashing buddies.

I'm on Steam most days, and have a fairly diverse selection of games at my fingertips, and would love to game with a group of likeminded individuals.

In terms of things I play relatively often, I have some fun with Arma 2 (both in DayZ and out - my favorite right now is a procedurally generated battleground), Company of Heroes, Minecraft, Borderlands2, Torchlight 2, and more recently have been getting back into Starcraft 2. I play to have fun, rather than for winning and bashing people, and I get the feeling that most people on here would be the same. I occasionally dip into the Secret World as well.

If there's interest, maybe we can put together a steam or skype group or something and have some fun times!

I just have noticed that I've not been as around on the forums as I'd like, and wanted to rectify that! I, as some of you may remember from years gone by, am Rase Cidraen, co-founder of the Dark Queen of the West (shameless plug below).

I wanted to get a feel for how the community was doing, and see if anyone wanted to chat about anything at all!
I look forward to talking to you.

THE BOOK OF DRAKES by Adam Daigle and Mike Welham

At the end of last year, I purchased the Midgard Campaign Setting by Wolfgang Baur and decided to use Midgard as my next campaign. Since then, I have been reading through it, assimilating information, working slowly on my "MIDGARD WIKI":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/mysteria/wikis/main-page and adding to my arsenal of PDFs by one or two every month. That is why I only recently discovered THE BOOK OF DRAKES, but having acquired it, I think it is one of the most interesting resources I have discovered in recent years and hereby commend it to the house!

I love dragons and most draconic things and I am guessing this is not abnormal among fantasy role players. Some of you might remember that I previously promoted a resource link for sample dragons. This is still an excellent player aid for any D&D 3.5 or Pathfinder GM and can be found at "THIS LINK":http://d20npcs.wikia.com/wiki/Sample_Dragons .

However, sometimes you might feel a full dragon is too much for a low level party, or maybe you are just sick of sending in juvenile dragons to the slaughter. By use of THE BOOK OF DRAKES, I can recommend an excellent resource with some very interesting alternatives.

There is no link for this but it is available on either Kobold Press or Paizo sites and, although it is geared specifically for a Midgard campaign, it is an excellent addition to any fantasy system, with numerous working examples usable in Pathfinder or D&D 3.5 systems.

Here’s what you get:
A whole chapter defining DRAKES and their place in the world, including ten drakes of note.
A chapter on PLAYERS AND DRAKES with feats, spells, items, alternate class abilities, etc. (This is not something that hooks me – I am an OLDSKOOL “dragons are monsters” kind of guy – but it might work for some.)
A chapter on GAME MASTERS AND DRAKES – This is where you get all your various types that you can spring on your players – not all are enemies – Alehouse Drakes can be a source of fun to roleplay in any tavern, whereas a Prismatic Drake is a CR14 Monster that you can pitch against your party without fear of ridicule. All in all you get stats for 20 specimens, each with great descriptions and wonderful illustrations. I can’t praise it enough!

I sure hope this is useful for some of my fellow OPiates!

Good Afternoon,

I'm currently typing up a few posts for the Adventure log over "here.":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/smog-over-london/ It's a game set in Victorian London, please excuse the lack of information on the site, I hope to add more soon.

As the GM I will be uploading some adventure posts through the memoires of an NPC closely connected tot he PCs. Now here is the stickler, each entry is going to be dated with a date back in the 1880s, should I set the post to that date or keep it at the current date? A strange question I know. To be honest I'd like to know what the disadvantages would be, to setting the dates of posts in the 1880s.

Cheers

Well, more based in the same world. It's super nerdy and dorky and I think it would be right up most of the site's alley. Especially if you enjoyed my campaign, Lodestar. Or if you like Fritz Leiber's work. Or if you're into off-kilter unpretentious fantasy fiction.

The book is called Spell/Sword, and you check it out on "Amazon":http://www.amazon.com/Spell-Sword-G-Derek-Adams/dp/0615782760/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1365454558&sr=8-1&keywords=Spell%2FSword or at my writing site: http://spell-sword.com/.

I'm self-publishing, so I've got to toot my own horn --- I feel awkward gumming up the official forums with my shameless self-promotion, but there it is. This is a book based on a Pathfinder campaign, and only my experiences writing the campaign here on OP gave me the courage to try to write it in the first place. For better or worse, OP is my book's womb.

Look, I'm a huge dork. And I wrote this book for huge dorks. I have a sneaking suspicion that most of you know the nobility of that title, and would really enjoy the book. Or at least hate it in a noble fashion.

Thank you for taking a peek! If anyone has a particle of interest, I'll be happy to expound more on the book's appeal --- but I don't want to overstep your good will any further.
finding this site and all you guys.
The crafting of web content has been fun too. I´ve learnt/stolen some neat designs. It´s much trial and error and tweaking
settings, but a lot of fun!
Grand plans sometimes stay just that. They never get finalized.
So, till next time, game on!

Hey all. Just a general question from a user that has been around for a while but not active on the forums.

When you visit a wiki, what do you look for? Is it GM content, page looks, player involvement, game subject or anything else?
Specifically for player journals is it form or function. In our game we have a few very creative players making a fun look for their journals along with great content and a few that use the basic formatting but also have great content.

I am currently a player in what looks like a pretty active game and while the GM does the lions share of the work, as is always the case, I try to keep up my end with a good journal. We have 6 players and 5 of us keep our journals updated regularly and the GM is constantly keeping up the site, with player and viewer suggestions.

Thanks in advance and have fun gaming.
