So if you're like me, you like to browse the campaigns here on Obsidian Portal, right? I know I do. And I usually like to browse looking for a specific genre - like when i started my current superhero game ( http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/infinitylegion/ ) I went around looking for all the other superhero games here to get ideas for how to structure my pages and also just for the fun of seeing what other people are doing.

I'm sure you can see the problem with this: to find superhero games, I would need to open browser tabs to show me the lists of games in Mutants & Masterminds, Champions/HERO, ICONS, Villains & Vigilantes, Truth and Justice, Marvel Super Heroes, DC Heroes, and of course look through the GURPS list to find any GURPS Supers games that happened to be hiding in the haystack. And, of course, those won't just return superhero games; one of the first results in Mutants & Masterminds is a Mass Effect game!

It seems like a reasonable way to help this would be to add a simple genre category to the main campaign information, like the drop-down menu we pick our game system in. Even some very basic categories like fantasy, science fiction, horror, mystery, crime, war, superhero, western, historical, and cartoon would, I imagine, cover the vast vast majority of campaigns just fine. Prominently feature this somewhere on the front page and it would make it hugely easier and more fun to find exactly what I need.

I have no idea how easy or hard this would be to do - for instance, would tags be more feasible? Less? I've got no clue. All I can say is that whatever work you guys put into this would pay huge dividends in terms of the user experience for people coming in off the front page.

Is there a way to display a list of all and only high level elves, weeding out high level dwarves and low level elves?
Perhaps an option for a list of all characters with *every* tag specified or a list of all characters with *any* of the tags specified?

Just a sincere thank you for adding _Flashing Blades_ to the list of roleplaying game systems on Obsidian Portal.
I believe mine is the lone _FB_ wiki on OP, "_Le Ballet de l'Acier_":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/le-ballet-de-l-acier, so it's not like gamers were banging on the volcanic glass doors for it, for which I appreciate the addition all the more.

It's a small thing, but I like that _Le Ballet_ . . . is no longer an 'other' system, and small things make a difference. If it helps me to find an interested player for my game, or if it makes another _FB_ gamemaster feel a little more welcome on OP, then in the end it turns out not to be so little after all.

For anyone interested in learning more about _FB_, I have a "wiki page":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/le-ballet-de-l-acier/wikis/about-flashing-blades on the system, including a link the Yahoo Group for the game.
Thanks again, OP.

Maybe this has been suggested before (I'd bet money that it has), but it seems like it would be really nice to have an option to set the default font for a whole campaign to something other than Times New Roman.

I realize that different browsers and different systems will recognize (or not) different fonts, but maybe a drop down on the campaign settings menu with 5 or 6 different options would work. It's not the biggest or most pressing issue, but it would be nice to provide an easy way to tweak your appearance to fit the tone of your setting a little more.

While I'm on the subject, a few choices for default background and text color could be cool too.

I have a thought for a new feature, but it might not be the easiest to implement. Many of us now are setting up pages with menus and side-bars and all that jazz, and when we get 10s or 100s of pages, doing page updates can be very time consuming and difficult. I was thinking that it would be awesome to add a "replace image" option. Such that, we could upload one new image, and it would replace all instances of a current image on our wiki. With the current set up, of creating a new folder for each new image, to prevent name overlap, I'm not sure how easy this would be to implement, but I do know I'm not the only one that would take heavy advantage of this feature.

Working on my wiki today reminded me of a few feature requests I've been meaning to post:

*1. A Navigation Panel:* God, it would be nice if there was a way to set one up one time and it be easy to put it in other pages. Most wikis have this functionality, and for good reason. This is by far the biggest one.

*2. View Source:* It'd be nice if, when going to another person's site, I could view their wiki's code. This button would be there in place of the "Edit" button if it wasn't my campaign. This would make it easier to learn how to format your page nicely.

*3. A Way To Put Code on the Wiki:* The forums have the "bc." textile command. Why can't that be acceptable to the wiki too? Even better, let us use the tag so we can do it for more than one line at a time.

*4. Turn Off Titles:* Most nicely formatted wikis format their own titles for pages, but that leaves the default page title hanging out in the top-left corner. I know this is doable, because you've done it for the Home page when viewed through the Home tab. I don't even need a way to selectively turn it off. One big switch for my whole wiki would be fine.

*5. HTML tables* I've gotten most of what I need to work through textile, but the fact that I have to format _each cell_ can be a huge pain in the ass when if I just used HTML I could have set the format once for the whole table.

*6. The Ability To Replace Images:* If I make a new version of an old image, I can delete the old one and upload the new one... but that breaks my old code. I'd rather just replace the old image altogether.

I'm considering starting a new game, set in the same world as the one I used for my existing "Sanction of the Athar":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/sanction D&D game, and as I thought about how I'd organize it, something occurred to me: I've done a lot of world building in that original wiki, but there's also a lot of stuff there that applies specifically to that campaign, rather than to the world in general. To make things simpler, and keep things consistent, it would be really nice to be able to share pages between two wikis seamlessly.

*How It Works*

For two wikis, A and B, a totally transparent link can be created. A user creates a link on Wiki A, with the format [[Optional Link Text|Wiki B/Page Name]]. Users browsing Wiki A who click this link are shown a page on Wiki A, for which the database simply fetches the contents from the specified page of Wiki B.

Links on the page served up are converted in this way automatically, allowing entire page complexes to be mirrored on an as-used basis. The server needn't store any of this, just handle it when served up, although it could cache the pages to the second wiki to reduce processing at the cost of code complexity and storage.

If both campaigns are owned by the same user, users with editing rights on either wiki can edit the page. If not, the page can only be edited by users with rights on it's original home (Wiki B, in this example), to prevent this feature being used as a back door to editing pages without an appropriate invitation.

*What It Looks Like*

A link, just like any other wiki link. The less different the better.

For numerous reasons which will go un-named, I think that there should be a printable version of a campaign webpage. Many websites have a button that changes the format/layout of a webpage so that it fits better onto a 81/2 by 11' sheet of paper.
Id like to be able to print off a couple of pages from my wiki without all the objects that appear at the top and right of the page (DM profile, advertisement, recent updates, ect). Notes how the editable content (the part the user creates) and the campaign banner are margined in; if we could just pop that out to full screen, it would be much more printable.
And this doesnt have to eliminate the effectiveness of the advertisement, because as soon as any link is clicked on from the "printable view" the format should return to the "normal view" as it loads the hyper linked page.

P.S. anyone have any ideas on how to print off a "neat" page in the mean time?

I'm relatively new to OP so I'm not sure if I'm missing an option or something, but I would LOVE to have the ability to limit the email notification content. What I find is happening, is that my players are simply replying to the notification emails (since all their addresses are in the notifies) and all the content is in the email. It's become very spammy, and I'm not able to utilize the forum to the extent I had imagined.

Is it possible to add an option that limits the email notification (which I think IS necessary, to prod the players into checking the site) to simply a one-line, so-and-so has updated whatever-page and a link? Just a checkbox on the email notification section, include full text of your post in email, yes no? Something like that. It would make my spam filter so happy.

1) There's no hard-edge to the maps, so you often see the edges of the image. I'm not sure if that's fixable with the current API, but it would be nice.

2) There's no option for a floating scale, legend, or compass, so you're forced to assume up is north, and you just hope that your players will head down to the bottom left corner to see what the scale is. Finally, if you have mystery symbols, they just get to guess. This could be fixed outside of the Google Map... allow simple editing on the page of the individual map so we can add text and images.

It would be great to have an adventure management tool. The site as it stands can go a fair way toward managing your adventure creation, but it's not very elegant, and there are a few important factors that I believe are missing.

My idea of a good adventure management tool could:
* Store encounter descriptions
* Store hand-outs
* Allow map uploads
* Link encounters to map locations
* Link to existing wiki articles, characters, and items
* Make items visible to the players selectively. Hand-outs, maps (without encounter markers), descriptive text.

You can do something like this with the existing wiki tool, using GM-only pages. The problem is that there's no elegant way to reference your encounters, handouts, etc. If I used this site to create adventures as-is, I would soon have hundreds of pages, and my adventure pages would just be in the way for world-building, and vice-versa.

In addition, one cannot make one's maps gm-only, unless I missed a setting somewhere. So, using the map/tag feature to place your encounters would give the info away to your players.

I am running a 4th ed. D&D campaign in the Forgotten Realms and although the map feature is nice, it isn't really helpful when the maps i need to show are far bigger than 500k will allow, and aren't square. If you could allow a map up to 2mb (which is about what the max php will generally allow for file transfers) and also have it not have to be a square, the map feature would indeed be useful. OR alternatively, allow for map graphics stored offsite (if possible).

It just occured to me that in many ways, one can edit a posted comment in many places in OP except one: Campaign Comments.

When you post a comment directly to someone's campaign, you have only the option to delete it and not edit it.
I suppose one could delete a comment and re-write/re-post but then the campaign GM receives two notification emails.
Why are edits allowed in every other area of OP but not here?

*What does it do?*

This feature would allow users to change the styling of map markers. This would allow the pins to be different colors so that GMs can mark different areas based on the type of location being marked. For instance:

* Blue for cities
* Yellow for the party's current location
* Green for quest destinations
* Red for the party's current quest destination
* White for historical landmarks
* Gray for geographic labels

*What does it look like?*

After placing a map marker, you can already click it to bring up a balloon containing details. Currently, this balloon only contains a link to the corresponding wiki page and a "delete" icon. You could add an "edit" icon in this balloon which brings up a separate dialog for editing the style of that marker.

This dialog could later allow changing other properties of the marker, such as the shape of the pin or its icon.
