Topic: Feature Requests / Latest Updates - more or less?

I would also like to just click a button to say when I’m ok with announcing an update… something like that. I like to edit a lot, and sometimes I create a page but don’t fill it out til a week or two later. So if it only updates on creation then I would resort to deleting the page and remaking it when I’m done with the text… But on the other hand, the updates page is very cluttered. So in other words, I’d personally prefer FemmeLegion’s option, I think.

Or perhaps have the regular update “spam” for any edit only sent to people who are fans or players, and then have “major updates” sent globally?

Topic: Help and Tips / First, second or third person?

In Sins of the Father I try to have a regular 3rd person log and then individual 1st person logs for each game. So there’s a personal view in their journals and then a more objective view in the storyline. The only problem is that the players have to actually write their logs, and that can be hard for the busy (less enthusiastic?) players or the ones that don’t like to write much…

I found that when I originally began writing up logs, I did them entirely in 1st person, but it turned out that my character was excluded from certain events for RP reasons and so the whole picture wasn’t quite clear. That’s why I ended up doing both… however it takes more work and to be blunt, the other players in my game don’t take as much interest in writing up their character’s thoughts, so it may have been a mistake on my part. I’m not quite sure yet.

We’re looking into adding markers to the maps that will be linkable. They would be standard google-maps style markers that you could drag into position and then link to a page on the wiki.

Yeah, that’s what I do for Sins of the Father – I made two adventure logs. One for news, one for a list of all the adventures. I think it’s easier to manage… I dunno. I’d love to have all my adventure logs be actual game logs, but I like having an index that just says the names, when they were updated, and some kind of catchy tagline. It just looks more manageable imo.

That’s why any player can add and edit NPCs, wiki pages, and so forth, instead of just the GM.

I can’t seem to do this. I have been wanting to edit the NPCs for the game I am in charge of (but not the GM of), and it won’t let me do it. How does a regular player edit NPCs? I have been staring at these NPCs that my DM doesn’t have time to update.. and I would LOVE to update them, but I can’t seem to find any way to do it. Thanks!

Edit: I’ve noticed that some NPCs in a different game I’m in can be edited, but the ones in the Sins of the Father game can’t. Is that some sort of permission issue?

I think what I might do is delete the NPCs and remake them since I can oddly enough remove any NPC but I can’t edit them… Sadly that will make me have to go through and change all the links in the wikis… ugh. I’ll have to think about it.

Topic: Bug Reports / Minor character/items lists problem

Not sure if this has been reported yet, but…

When you’re looking at a list of the Characters ( http://www.obsidianportal.com/game_contents/list ) at the top right, where it shows the top 5 characters, it seems to link only to the ” http://www.obsidianportal.com/game_contents/list ” URL and not to the actual character.

Also, it seems to be showing items as well as characters…

Similarly, if you go to “Items” ( http://www.obsidianportal.com/game_contents/list?content_class=GameItem ), the top right links back to the same URL I just pasted instead of the actual item or characters, and it also seems to be listing characters as well as items..

Though it’s hard to tell if it’s listing characters as well as items since I can’t click on them, I mean.. I know bag of donuts is an item, and I think… Vanion is a character, but I’m not familiar with that one, so I’m not sure. I just guessed they were mixed up.

Just noticed it today, thought I’d mention it. :)

Yeah, I’m familiar with notepad. I use it a lot for coding as well. However, I prefer to render the textile formatting as I work, and to save it online since i use three computers to work on my story. One at home, at work, and at my friend’s house. So, yeah. Unfortunately, gotta save it often this way.
