Topic: General Discussion / 4E - Powers, not Treasure

CrazyDE -> To answer your question, I used the Magic Set Editor, which someone made a template for power cards for 4E.

As for removing treasure, I’m not. Treasure is still a big part of things, and I’m using the standard “packages” for distributing treasure. However, with about 12 players (8 playing at most at any given time), treasure tends to rotate a bit, so, I’m using this to give each player something unique without having them have to quibble over treasure.

The players have just reached level 3. Six sessions (well, seven now) into the game, and it seems like every three sessions or so, they’re hitting a new level, which is about what I was hoping for. I plan on keeping that same pace, so that by this time next year, they can be wrapping up.

So, to re-iterate – there’s plenty of magical weaponry and other neat stuff going around. This is just sort of giving them a little something extra.

Topic: General Discussion / 4E - Powers, not Treasure

Evening folks. For those of you that play or are familiar with 4E, I just wanted to get some opinions on this. While I’m providing the character’s with treasure, of course, I felt that some specialized powers would be appropriate as well. We’ve done something similar in the past with ‘non-specialized powers’ in the form of cards, where you get a new, random one each session, but, having a power tailored to each character seemed interesting. That being said:

There they are. Any feedback on ‘em (or anything in my campaign), is much appreciated.

Actually, I had thought of this, too, Redstar; I may look over your campaign notes… don’t be surprised if you see some logs where the patrons of Sir Horatio’s show face in a city where your PCs have already caused chaos.

Topic: Help and Tips / On image borrowing

I’m personally of the opinion that, so long as you’re not trying to profit off of images, if they’re publicly displayed online, they’re fair game. Redstar’s right in saying you shouldn’t take credit for the art, as well. If you take a lot of images from one site, try to give credit where credit’s due, but, don’t bog yourself down by trying to credit every individual that you’ve used art from. If they have a problem, they’ll come looking for you, and then you can take it down, or do like they ask (if they’re asking for credit).

Not to thread derail, but, anyone have any luck with any artists that do commissions? As much as ‘found art’ as served me, I’d like to get some portraits of the PCs up and goin’ at some point.

Yeah, I’d be willing to rep up OP at some Cons up here in the MA area, maybe even paper some local gaming haunts; got a PDF/flyer that you want used?

Topic: General Discussion / Anyone use projectors in their games?

Man, I would love a setup like that. Right now I’m just happy if I can prevent my cats from jumping on the table and ravaging the minis. Of course, a projector setup wouldn’t likely help with that. The dust illuminated by the beam would be like a magnet to the lil’ bassards.

Topic: General Discussion / Cream of the Crop?

I really do like the Cream of the Crop feature, actually, I find myself cruisin’ over to campaigns pretty often based on them.

Topic: General Discussion / Proud of 'Em

OK, so, I’m not usually the arm-waving, look-at-me, look-at-me sort, but, I was especially proud of my players in this part of the adventure, and wanted to share with anyone that wanted to read the log from this part of my little campaign. Just a little arm-waving here. Don’t mind me:

Topic: Bug Reports / Login

Seems like the login page is having some issue. I was getting a GET/login error 502 beforehand, and now it’s simply not recognizing the login ID at all; I remembered this forum was essentially an-add on, so I thought I’d try to log in here – lo and behold. So, thought I’d give you a heads up, if you guys didn’t know about the login situation already.

Topic: General Discussion / why is no one looking at my stuff :(

OK, just a quick question, and a bit of a thread derail – I want to use the location markers, but, haven’t found a means yet. What am I missin’?

Topic: General Discussion / "Evil campaigns"

I ran a ‘low road’ campaign, a group of adventurers hired on by the Boromar clan, in Eberron, dirty deeds leading down fairly heroic adventures. In many cases, these turn into a bit more of a smash-and-grab campaign, but, with a little work, you can use the party’s actions against them, giving them pause when they might think burning a place to the ground would be a good idea.

I use the PC Portraits – with a little photoshoppin’, they can fit into any campaign, really.

Thank you much, Redstar.

The third session took place this past Sunday, in the process of throwing together the notes for it now – been a bit lazy about adding the items, but, I can throw them up in the ‘crunch’ soon.

In response to Micah’s post – yeah, I’m in the same boat, at least about the only being 1/1000th of a step ahead.

In case anyone’s interested, I’ve finished up putting the first ‘logs’ from the first session, and the second is well on its way. If anyone’s into 4E, you can actually see a number of items created for the purpose of this game, as well as some monsters. I think it’s neat, anyway.

Yeah, I’ve tried to go back and painfully retro-fit old campaigns in the past, and, well, it’s a task. I’m too easily distracted.

For most of the portraits, I’ll be honest, I’m using the Wizards of the Coast free PC portraits they put up – http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/arch/pc

For the NPCs of Camden and Reuel, I’m recycling some old comissioned art from a friend of mine, and the Lady of Pain was fan art – I tracked down the artist, and she gave me her blessings (I just need to finish the credits so I can link back to her site).

Thank you much, everyone. The first game was played last night, and went really well, in my humble opinion. Now to drudge up what actually occurred into a log-like format, all the while, pretending to work.

Topic: Introduce Yourself / Hello, and Welcome to Tonight's Programming

Thought I’d take a moment to say hello to everyone here; new to Obsidian Portal, but, loving the tool so far, and using it pretty much to exclusion for keeping track of my first ‘official’ 4E D&D game. If any of you want to take a peek at it, before the first session sits down (this Sunday), the site is here: http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/sir_horatios

As for myself, I’ve been at this whole gaming thing for far too long now. I fear I cannot be stopped.
