I just wanted to wish all Dragon*Con people a good time this weekend. I actually live in Atlanta, but I’m heading out of to visit some friends. Otherwise, I’d probably be handing out fliers and begging people to sign up to the site :)

Remember: if anyone at the con says, “If only there were a place to blog about all the cool games I’m in…” you know where to send them!

Are you using the full wysiwyg editor (it has the warning about “this will be removed soon”) or the basic Textile editor? I’ve only used the more tag with the Textile editor.

The period-space thing has tripped me up, too.

You should be able to add the CSS selectors in a lot of ways, but I haven’t tested a lot of it. For example:

As to stylesheets, we are working on allowing user-created themes that would be a CSS + images. This will be a premium-only feature. The main thing we’re waiting on is we’d like to redesign the site a little before letting people loose on creating themes.

The curly braces allow for setting all sorts of CSS style info. For example:
p{color:blue; margin-left:20px;}. This paragraph will be blue and indented.

I’ll think about it…but don’t get your hopes up. Maybe I’ll come up with a reasonable way to do this, but for now it’s still looking too complicated.

Yes, Textile is the right way to go, and we’re getting rid of the WYSIWYG html editor because it’s a pain to use and it garbles the Textile.

Use WYSIWYG should be off, yes.

To get help with Textile, create a post in the help section and give some examples of what you’re trying to do. Textile can be a little frustrating at first, but along with a sprinkling of HTML and CSS it’s possible to make some really nice stuff.

I found found a Textile WYSIWYG-lite editor that I’ll be rolling out soon. It’s not full-featured (yet), but I’m playing with a couple options to find the right mixture.

Textile is ultimately the best way to get the most out of the site, so that’s the way we’re going to head.

I found and fixed the bug, but I won’t be able to roll it out until probably Monday or Tuesday night.

Rest assured, you’ll all be back up at your normal levels in no time!

Click the edit campaign icon (looks like a piece of paper).

At the bottom of the page is an area to delete the campaign. I made it so you have to click through a few times, just so no one accidentally deletes their campaign.

Just a note that we’ve added support for OpenID on the main site (forums on their way…).

This should make it a little easier to signup and login to the main site.

If you have any questions about what this means, list them here and I’ll try to make it clear.

Still, that’s an interesting concept…charge money to turn off an irritating wysiwyg editor.

Maybe it’s time to get rid of the damned thing altogether…

Ah, good call.

Go to your profile and click the edit icon. There should be a “use WYSIWYG” checkbox. Make sure all your players do as well. The WYSIWYG editor and Textile do not play nice.

Seriously, we should just get rid of that WYSIWYG. We added it as an afterthought, when we found that some people are really uncomfortable using Textile and a plain text field. Still, that editor is a major pain, and probably more trouble than it’s worth.

Topic: Help and Tips / Importing from MediaWiki?

We’d love to offer migration help, but it’s actually a very hard problem. Supporting a wiki-to-wiki converter would be very hard to write, would need to work with multiple wiki syntaxes, and would take time away from other features. Plus, it would only support people coming from other wiki systems, and do nothing for brand new users.

So, a full migration might be very difficult, depending on the size, scope, and formatting you’ve got in your other wiki.

The best advice I can give is try to do most of it with HTML instead of Textile. See if you can grab the original HTML from your mediawiki instance and just drop that in. Textile and HTML can coexist fairly nicely, and we do allow a fair number of HTML tags.

Anyone here going to GenCon this year? If so, would you be willing to hand out some OP fliers and/or place them on some info tables? We’re not looking for a huge commitment or an all day thing, just give them out to fellow gamers and drop them off on some tables.

If I remember correctly, Ryan had some very nice ones printed up that we could mail out to the willing. I suppose we’d need to know fairly soon so we could get them in the mail to you in time for the Con.

For some reason, there have been links seeping out with our IP address instead of our domain name.

Basically, never use 67.207.129.22 Instead, always use http://www.obsidianportal.com

That should fix it for you.

To maintain database integrity, we don’t delete user accounts. However, if you don’t want to receive emails, go to your profile page, edit your profile, and uncheck the “send me emails” box.
