You may have noticed that searching has mysteriously disappeared.

We determined that our search server (Apache Solr, for those interested…) was hogging all the memory on the server. Since the search was a very low-use feature, we decided to disable it for now.

We are exploring alternatives ( such as http://www.sphinxsearch.com/ ), and we’ll try to get it up and running again by this weekend.

On the plus side, I’m sure you’ll all agree that the site is much zippier now.

Yea, it is much zippier :D

We’ve brought back search, and tweaked it quite a bit to use less memory. We’ll be keeping an eye on it to make sure it behaves nicely.
